Mission & Goals
MISSION
The mission of the Sojourner Group is to meet the often ignored and unmet needs of the historically traumatized American Black survivor of sexual and domestic violence. While the Sistah Circle provides a space for communal conversation for survivors to share similarities of culture, identity, and experiences it doesn’t stop there. Education and awareness is the pathway for change. The Sojourner Group conducts workshops and trainings that raises awareness for providers, advocates, corporations, and community leaders with a vigorous drive for social justice, change, and healthier lifestyles to better serve the American Black survivor.
GOALS
My mantra is to EDUCATE, ENGAGE, and EMPOWER. We respectfully acknowledge and validate the significant cultural differences when a victim/survivor is functioning to move towards a more dignified and healthier lifestyle.
We work diligently to provide social instructions that bolster a victim/survivor to overcome life’s obstacles. I encourage survivors to live the second principle of Kwanzaa, Kujichagulia (koo-jee-chah-GOO-lee-ah) — “Self-Determination”- ‘Define Ourselves, Name Ourselves, Create for Ourselves, and Speak for Ourselves;’ qualities favorable to developing healthier lifestyles and families.
